    Responsibilities

    The Paper Machine Business Unit Leader will effectively lead, mentor, supervise, coach and develop hourly employees and a salaried process engineer to improve capability and performance.  Manages operations for three paper machines, stock preparations, boiler house, and waste water treatment plant.     

    • Sets objectives and goals that are cascaded and aligned to the overall site business plan. 
    • Responsible for day to day area safety and assist with all area safety efforts.
    • Participate or review all safety incidents and investigate root cause. Assure follow-up items are completed in a timely manner.
    • Conduct investigations of safety incidents with other salaried and hourly personnel.
    • Help support the behavioral safety program (where applicable) and ensure that safe work practices are followed.
    • Lead safety initiatives and provide safety training to ensure safe work practices are followed and enforced.
    • Maintain and improve quality standards for all products produced.
    • Lead quality initiatives and support change to ensure satisfied downstream customers.
    • Responsible for the development and/or application of standards and practices to achieve performance targets.
    • Provides leadership, direction setting, and coaching to drive operational performance and optimize results.  
    • Coaches and facilitates loss elimination by use of effective problem-solving tools such as root cause analysis. 
    • Responsible for maintaining adequate staffing levels, assessing/building capability, and leading disciplinary or corrective actions if necessary. 
    • Works with business team(s) to ensure consistent application of company and department policies. 
    • Assures continuous and efficient production, coordinating teams, equipment, materials, and supplies. 
    • Accountable for the business unit (groups) operational budget.   
       

     

    Qualifications

    Required education and related experience:

    • HS diploma or GED is required.  Chemical Engineering, Paper Science, or related Engineering degree is required. 
    • 5+ years paper making experience, with at least three (3) in a supervisory/leadership role.  Previous tissue manufacturing experience is highly desired.
    • Proven ability to effectively lead and manage others and build teamwork and capability.    

    Skills and Abilities (technical/professional skills, expertise and qualifications):

    • Intermediate knowledge and application of MS Office programs

    • Strong organizational skills required. 

    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills including continuous Improvement tools and concepts.   

    • Self-directed and energetic, able to inspire and motivate others. 

    • Knowledge of industry, machinery, equipment and processes.

    • Knowledge of process control systems and ERP systems; JD Edwards is desired
